| MADISON, NJ -- Chris Harmon (New Market, MD) registered five goals and Tom Chryssikos (Ellicott City, MD) added four goals and two assists to lead the Swarthmore College Garnet to a 12-10 victory over host Drew University Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action. Drew came back from a 1-3 deficit at the close of the first quarter to nail three straight goals by Gil Arbitsman (Westfield, NJ), Craig Middleton (South Setauket, NY) and Phil Rosenau (Ambler, PA) and take a 4-3 lead. The remainder of the first half was a back-and-forth affair which saw Swarthmore retie the game three times after two additional Drew leads. With a 6-6 tie at intermission, the third quarter belonged to Swarthmore as Chryssikos regained the lead for the Garnet (7-6), followed by back-to-back goals from Harmon for a 9-6 Swarthmore lead. Drew junior Tom Stitt, Jr. (Easton, PA) nailed one for the Rangers before Chryssikos found the back of the net again for a 7-10 Swarthmore advantage to close out the third quarter. The Rangers were relentless with Gil Arbitsman netting a pair of goals in two minutes to bring Drew within one (9-10). Swarthmore quickly answered though with scores from Tom Coughlin and Chryssikos. The Rangers did get another from Rosenau with 5:02 left to play, but that was as close as they got with neither team able to connect again in the final minutes. Drew goalie Jason Woodford (Timonium, MD) finished the day with 21 saves and Frank Mazzucco collected 16 in Swarthmore's win. Drew slips to 3-2 on the season, while Swarthmore evens up their record at 3-3. The Rangers face a tough week this week as they host King's College tomorrow night at 7:00 in Freedom Conference action, followed by a non- conference makeup game Wednesday (7:15 p.m.) against Vassar in Ranger Stadium. |
