Eastern vs. Neumann
April 19, 2006
The Game Story:
The Eastern University men's lacrosse team used a four goal burst at the close of the 3rd period to break open a tight game and down Neumann College for their second win of the season.

The visiting Knights jumped to an early lead when Ryan McCauley found Nick Schall with a beautiful pass to the back post from the right wing. Schall put away the goal with 8:22 remaining in the opening quarter. Senior midfielder Ryan Hamidi leveled the game on a tight angle shot with just over two minutes to play in the opening frame. First year goalkeeper Zach Rivest kept the Eagles in the game with 8 of 16 saves in the first period.

The second period opened with some controversy as both teams were hit with Illegal stick penalties. With a renewed emphasis on possession for the next three minutes, the Eagles scored twice on goals from Nate Trunfio and Jimmy Caiola. First year midfielder Michael Ryan extended the Eagle advantage to 4-1 with 7 minutes to go off a pass from Caiola.

The Knights came roaring back on an even strength goal from Jason Kahn and a man-up goal that came just after the first of two Eastern penalties expired from Curtis Costa.

Up 4-3 at the half, the Eagle coaching staff encouraged their players to stay disciplined. That discipline paid off as the Eagles were able to score four goals in the closing six minutes of the half to take control of the game. Ryan opened the run off a pass from Hamidi at 5:56. Caiola scored his second of the game a minute later on a pass from Pat Dempsey. Trunfio then got his second of the match of another Hamidi assist, before Caiola thundered unchecked up the middle for his third goal of the match.

The Eagles pressed forward in the 4th with goals from Trunfio, Gibson, and Dempsey to secure their second win of the season. The Eagles, who travel to Shenendoah on Saturday, will return home to conclude PAC play next Wednesday.
