|The College at Florham Devils trailed Manhattanville, 5-4, at halftime but scored all five goals in the third quarter and hung on in the fourth quarter to earn a 10-9 win in Freedom Conference action on Tuesday evening.|
With the win, the Devils improved to 5-6 (1-1 Freedom) while the Valiants dropped to 2-10 (0-2 Freedom).
Manhattanville started the game strong, scoring the first two goals before senior midfielder Paul Colflesh made it 4-1 with 4:56 left in the first quarter. The Valiants then scored two more in a row to grab a 4-1 advantage with 14:22 remaining in the second quarter but the Devils responded with three straight to tie the game at 4-4 with 9:15 to go. Senior midfielder Adam Koontz, junior midfielder Cory Weiss and senior attack Brian Goodwine scored the three goals. Manhattanville scored the final goal of the half with 5:27 left to take a 5-4 lead into intermission.
The Devils came out on fire in the third quarter, scoring all five goals to take a 9-5 advantage heading into the final quarter. Goodwine and sophomore midfielder Jake Higgins each scored two goals in the run. Manhattanville scored back-to-back goals to begin the fourth to cut their deficit to 9-7 with 13:24 to go but Colflesh got one of those goals back and made it 10-7 with 11:30 remaining. Manhattanville cut it to 10-8 with 7:35 to play and it looked like the Devils would be able to run out the rest of the clock but the Valiants got a goal with 0:03 to go to pull within one, 10-9. Junior midfielder Charlie Yotcoski preserved the victory though, by winning the face-off and running the clock out.
Goodwine finished the game with three goals while Higgins had a goal and an assist. Colflesh tallied two goals while Koontz notched a goal and four assists. Yotcoski was outstanding on face-offs winning 14-of-20. Sophomore goalkeeper George Beck earned the win, making eight saves.
