| MADISON, NJ - Sophomore midfielder Pat O'Brien (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored three goals and senior attack Kevin Shadiack (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) added two goals to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 9-7 win over Messiah on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference action. The victory was the 75th at FDU for Head Coach Pat Scarpello. With the win, the Devils improved to 7-4 (6-1 MAC) while the Falcons dropped to 5-6 (4-3 MAC). Messiah got on the board first with a goal just 0:49 into the game but the Devils rallied to score the next three to grab a 3-1 lead with 13:15 left in the second quarter. O'Brien, junior attack Drew Canfield (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and freshman attack Seth Molek (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park River Forest) had the goals in the run. The Falcons scored two of the next three goals to pull to within 4-3 with 5:07 left in the half but freshman attack Brian Gill (Levittown, NY/East Meadow) scored on a man-up off a feed from O'Brien to send the Devils into intermission with a 5-3 advantage. The Falcons scored two goals in the third quarter, sandwich around a tally from Shadiack, to cut FDU's lead to 6-5 heading into the fourth quarter. That's when the Devils stepped on the gas though, as Shadiack and O'Brien scored the first two goals of the quarter to give FDU an 8-5 edge with 7:11 to go. After Messiah made it 8-6, O'Brien scored off a pass from Gill to put the Devils up 9-6 with 4:26. Messiah got their final goal with 0:24 remaining but by that time FDU had already sealed the win. Gill finished with one goal and two assists while Molek had a goal and an assist. Senior goalkeeper Alex Kajencki (Medfield, MA/Xaverian) earned the win, making seven stops. The Devils return to action on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at home against King's beginning at 7 pm. |
