The Game Story:

MADISON, NJ Ė Senior midfielder Jason Koontz (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) finished with three goals while his younger brother, freshman midfielder Adam Koontz (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson), and Tournament MVP junior attack Kevin Shadiack (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) added two goals apiece as the College at Florham Devils beat Widener, 8-7, in the MAC Tournament Championship Game on Saturday afternoon. It is FDUís first MAC Championship since 1981 while the Devils also ended Widenerís run of four consecutive conference championships.

With the win, the Devils improved to 13-4 while the Pride dropped to 10-9.

FDU notched the first two goals of the game, both coming with a man-up, as junior attack Will Stark (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) and Jason Koontz found the back of the net. Widener came back with the next two goals to tie it at 2-2 with 11:49 left in the second quarter before Adam Koontz scored two straight goals to give FDU a 4-2 lead with 4:52 left in the first half. The Pride added a goal just 1:30 later to cut FDUís halftime lead to 4-3.

The Pride then tied the game at 4-4 with 7:53 to go in the third, but Shadiack scored with a man-up and Jason Koontz got his second goal to give the Devils a 6-4 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Widener cut it to 6-5 just 1:30 into the fourth but Jason Koontz put the Devils back up two, 7-5, with 4:30 left in regulation. The Pride made it 7-6 just a minute later before Shadiack scored again with 2:19 to play to put the Devils up 8-6. Widener came back though, as they did all day, and scored with 1:20 to go to cut it to 8-7 and they then won the ensuing face-off but the FDU defense stood tall as they forced a turnover and ran out the clock to secure the victory.

Senior midfielder Peter Fleming (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) finished with two assists while junior goalkeeper Alex Kajencki (Medford, MA/Xavierian) made six saves to earn the win.

The Devils will return to action in the NCAA Tournament at a date and time to be announced.
