|LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall defeated Elmira 19-7 in non-conference men's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon and improved to 1-1 while the Eagles fell to 1-1. |
Billy Kempner led all scorers with five while Michael Bossidy tallied four goals and added an assist for five points. Chris Kelly and Zach Fink each struck twice and A.J. Reichert, Sean Kenny, Philip Gamble, Brendan Kenavan, Ben Ross and Joe Porchetta all finished with a goal apiece.
Tristan Miller finished with three helpers, as did Chad Gamble as Will Ballantyne, Joe Bowen, Jordan McLean, Bosiddy, Barr and Reichiert each dished out one assist.
The game was never in question as the Diplomats jumped out to an early 5-0 lead 10 minutes into the game. Bossidy got things started with two goals in the first two minutes of action to start the 5-0 run. Kempner hit in the second quater to make it 6-1 and Elmira managed a score at 8:44 in the second for a 6-2 halftime score.
F&M scored six-straight to start the third quarter to make with 12-2 at 6:27. Kelly then found twine at 3:07 to jump start a 3-0 F&M run before the Soaring Eagles got one through at the end of the third to make it 15-4.
The teams traded scores throughout the fourth and Porchetta netted the final score of the game with seven seconds left to play.
T.J. Tynan was 10-for-12 from the X with four groundballs while Chad Gamble and Zachary Johannes finished with three groundballs apiece.
Cameron Setian turned away 11 shots and only gave up four goals in 45 minutes of work to improve to 1-1 and Dave Bucchino took the loss.
The Diplomats outshot Elimira 51-31, won 17 of the games 29 face-offs and went 15-for-17 in the clears.
F&M has a day off before hosting Kenyon on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
