| ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Shane Brennan and Noah Wilkinsky each scored two goals over a 7-2 run to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 10-7 season-opening victory against St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday. The Diplomats (1-0) broke a 4-all tie with four goals in the third quarter to stay out in front for good. Chris Marcozzi matched a career-high 15 saves, making six stops on nine saves in the first quarter. Mark Hild and Kevin Kilpatrick added two points apiece with a goal and an assist. Freshman Colin McKew registered his first collegiate points in a pair of assists. The Seahawks' (0-1) Chris Becraft recorded five points with a game-high four goals and one assist. Netminder Pat Simpson tallied 12 saves on 28 shots faced. Hild gave F&M a 2-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game, scoring on a pass from Scott Hahn before finding Kilpatrick for his first collegiate goal at the 9:13 mark. St. Mary's tallied the next three goals, including the first one of the second quarter for its only lead of the game at 3-2. The next seven out of nine goals belonged to the Diplomats with three out of the seven coming on man-up opportunities. Brennan and Wilkinsky each tallied a goal in the second quarter and Sam Burns evened the score in the final 30 seconds to make it 4-all at halftime. Sean Murphy won the first face-off of the third quarter, grabbing the ground ball and finished his solo run with the goal to give F&M the lead that would not relinquish. Brennan and Wilkinsky capitalized on extra-man chances, while Justin Rayman netted his first collegiate goal for an 8-5 lead heading into the final 15 minutes. The Diplomats and Seahawks went goal-for-goal in the fourth quarter, starting with Phillip Dimin's first goal of his career. Becraft scored his final two in a three-minute span, including one man down and Sean Oliver managed to get his first one of the season at the 4:19 mark. Murphy ended the day 10-for-17 from the center circle and grabbed a team-high eight ground balls. F&M returns to action at home on Sunday against No. 7 Roanoke. Game time is 12 p.m. |
