| LANCASTER, PA -- Attackmen Colin Hanley (So., Davidsonville,
MD/DeMatha) scored three goals and added an assist to lead #10
nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall College to a 14-3 win over
Muhlenberg College. Hanley, who has tallied a goal in every game so far this year for F&M, the total matches his season high of four goals scored versus Denison in a 12-7 win on March 8. Jon Singer (Sr., Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) found the net three times and added two assists, Steve Welsh (So., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen) added three goals and an assist while Beau Smith (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Gilman) dished out five assists and registered a goal to lift the Diplomats (8-0, 3-0 CC) to the victory. John Westendorf, James Robinson and Kevin Kessler scored unassisted second half goals for Muhlenberg as the Mules (4-3, 0-3 CC). Powered by a first half hat trick by Hanley, the Diplomats jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first half. The lead grew to 10-0 in the opening moments of the second half as Singer netted back-to-back goals with 14:24 and 13:00 minutes left in the third quarter and Welsh put home a point blank shot off a pass from Smith. Muhlenberg got on the board with 7:39 left in the third quarter as Westendorf dodged and fired a shot from the top of the arc for a 10-1 deficit. F&M responded with scores by Hanley and Bryan Nolan (Sr., Scottsdale, AZ/Western Reserve) to take a 12-1 lead into the fourth. Three minutes into the final quarter, Singer ripped a long range shot through traffic that found the back of the net to put the lead at 13-1. Two minutes later, Ashley Louis (Fr., Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) beat his defender and broke in on the cage and scored for the Diplomats' 14th goal. Robinson and Kessler added scores with 7:48 and 6:37 left in the game to close within eleven as the Diplomats improve to 14-0 all-time against the Mules. Historically, the game marked the first meeting between F&M and Muhlenberg since 1980. The Mules fielded a varsity men's lacrosse team from 1966 to 1980 registering a 0-13 record against the Diplomats.
