The Game Story:
GETTYSBURG, PA --- The twelfth-ranked Washington College men's lacrosse team upset fourth-ranked Gettysburg, 9-8, in Centennial Conference action this afternoon in Gettysburg. The win broke a seven-game losing streak to the Bullets (6-2, 2-1 Centennial) for Washington (5-2, 3-0). The loss by Gettysburg ends the Bullets 36-game regular-season conference winning streak. Gettysburg's last loss in Centennial play was an 18-9 defeat to Washington on April 12, 1997.

The Shoremen scored just 15 seconds into the game when sophomore attackman Jon Spivey (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) fired in a goal off a feed from junior Tom Parr (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright). Washington made it 2-0 when senior attackman Chris Edwards (Baltimore, MD/Boys' Latin) scored off an assist from sophomore attackman Ryan Morrison (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset/Salisbury School, CT) with 13:54 to go in the period. Gettysburg got on the board with 9:12 on the clock on an unassisted goal by Sean McTiernan. The Shoremen answered with goals by junior midfielder Steve Berger (Jessup, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) and Edwards at 6:17 and 5:57, respectively, to put WC up 4-1. Berger assisted on the goal at 5:57 by Edwards. Tripp Neville scored for Gettysburg at 2:54 to make it 4-2 after one quarter

The Bullets scored first in the second quarter when Brian Pryor scored an unassisted goal at 10:47. Edwards found Spivey for the Shoremen's fifth goal at 5:47, but Gettysburg's Evan Gallant scored off a pass from Pryor with 5:02 left to cut the lead to 5-4. Spivey then scored off a Berger feed with 1:43 to put the Shoremen up 6-4 at the half.

The Bullets opened the third quarter with a goal at 14:05 as McTiernan scored off a pass from Chase Stewart. The Shoremen then scored their only goal of the period as Berger found Spivey for the goal at 12:32. The Bullets got back within one with 3:37 to go in the period as Pryor fed Gallant for the second time in the game.

Gettysburg pulled even for the first time since 0-0 with 5:08 to go in the fourth as Stewart scored unassisted goal to knot the game at 7-7. The Shoremen won the ensuing face-off, however, and sophomore defenseman Kyle Mitten (Wilton, CT/Wilton) scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal with 4:54 left. Berger found Edwards for an insurance goal at 1:14 and it turned out the Shoremen needed it as Brian Ford rounded out the scoring for Gettysburg off an assist from Stewart with two seconds to play.

Washington junior goalie Richard Yost (Westminster, MD/St. Paul's) made 13 saves in the win. Berger (one assist, four goals), Spivey (four goals), and Edwards (three goals, one assist) led the Shoremen offense.

Tiernan and Gallant each scored twice for the Bullets.

The Shoremen are back in action next Saturday with another key conference game. They will travel to tenth-ranked Franklin & Marshall for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
