Gordon vs. Endicott
March 24, 2009
The Game Story:
Wenham, Mass. -- The Gordon men dropped a hard fought 9-4 decision to local rival Endicott on a chilly night at the Brigham Athletic Complex in Wenham. The Scots defense performed strongly, holding the 6th ranked Gulls to only 9 goals, but were unable to consistently penetrate the strong Endicott defense.

Brandon Dube and Jon Thomas opened the scoring early for Endicott, tallying goals in the game's first 5 minutes. However, the Scots answered back when Danny Mack found the back of the cage to put Gordon on the board. Endicott took a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period when Jonathan Prentice scored on a helper from Dube.

The Scots had their best offensive stretch early in the 2nd period when Danny Mack tallied again and was quickly followed by teammate Andrew Kirklaldy to knot the score at 3-3. However, the tie was short-lived as the Gulls scored 4 unanswered goals before the period was over, culminating with a back-breaking score from Brad Lipkvich with less than one second on the clock.

The second half of the game featured staunch defense on both sides of the field, as goalkeepers Mark Merullo and Eric Hagarty both shone. Both netminders posted 8 saves. Endicott's final 2 goals were scored by Eddie O'Reilly who used superior speed to victimize the Scots defense. Gordon's final goal came off the stick of Kirkaldy at the 7:09 mark in the 3rd period. The final 20 minutes of the game went scoreless.

Kirkaldy led the Scots with 9 shots while Stuart Knechtle anchored the Gordon defense, scooping up 11 ground balls. Endicott's O'Reilly and JD Prentice led the team with 2 goals apiece, and Bob Crosset had 6 ground balls.

Gordon (1-5, 1-1 TCCC) will be back in action on Saturday when they host Salve Regina at 1pm. Endicott (7-0, 2-0, TCCC) has a non-conference matchup with Colby on Thursday at 4pm in Beverly.
