Gordon vs. Roger Williams
April 17, 2012
The Game Story:
After finding themselves down 8-3 at the half, the Fighting Scots rallied but in the end came up short in the second, falling to the visiting Hawks of Roger Williams, 10-9, to move to 6-7 overall, 4-4 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play this season. The Hawks pick up their second consecutive CCC win to improve to 5-1 in league action.

Adam Quinn (Sr./Gloucester, Mass.) and Mio Sison (Fr./Warren, Mich.) led Gordon's offensive effort with three goals and an assist apiece, while Wes Chittick (Sr./Glenside, Pa.) contributed a goal and two assists, Dan Perednia (Sr./Granby, Conn.) and Ian Knechtle (So./New Canaan, Conn.) tallied one each, and Matt Dantona (Fr./Syosset, N.Y.) and Sam Spellman (Fr./Lewes, Del.) combined for two assists on the night. Keeper Houston Zemanski (Jr./Annapolis, Md.) recorded 12 saves in the effort.

For Roger Williams, Cameron Signorelli (Fr./Albany, N.Y.) led all scorers with an impressive four-goal, one-assist outing, while John Ricciardi (So./Duxbury, Mass.) netted a hat trick, Drew Beck (Jr./Cross River, N.Y.) recorded two points (one goal, one assist), and Todd Carson (So./Pennington, N.J.) and Garrett Ficara (Fr./Somers, Conn.) chipped in one each. Luke Aubrey (Fr./Norwalk, Conn.) turned away 13 of the Scots' attempts, including several clutch saves down the stretch to earn the win in the cage.

Though Gordon's Knechtle struck first on the night after finishing a pass from Quinn at 8:24 in the opening stanza, the Hawks responded with three consecutive goals (two from Ricciardi, one from Signorelli) over the next four minutes to overtake the lead, 3-1. Quinn stopped the run by netting his first of the night at the 4:06 mark, taking advantage of a man-up situation to draw the Scots within one, only to have Roger Williams' Beck and Signorelli answer back with a pair of goals less than 20 seconds apart to once again widen the gap, 5-2. Then, with time all but elapsed in the opening quarter, Sison finished a Chittick pass from a nearly impossible angle with just one second remaining to make it 5-3 at the end of the first.

Determined to extend their lead, the Hawks combined a steady, patient attack with a stingy defensive effort to net three goals in the second while holding the Scots scoreless to carry an 8-3 lead into the break.

Despite that deficit, however, the Scots battled back in the second half, outscoring their guests 3-2 in the third and going on a 3-0 run over the fourth to draw the game to within one (10-9) with 30 seconds to play. And though the Scots won the faceoff following Chittick's late goal, they were unable to convert on the possession and ceded the one-goal loss.

Having completed their CCC schedule tonight, the Scots host non-conference Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday, April 21 at 3:00p.m. at the Brigham Athletic Complex. Roger Williams will close out its regular season schedule with a CCC matchup at Wentworth on the same day at 7:00p.m.
