Joe Heney was terrific at the start of the game as he played a role in the first four Springfield goals. Heney connected with Beebe 1:28 into the game as Beebe, a preseason All-American, slipped a shot through the legs of Gordon’s goalie Mark Merullo.

1:49 later Heney threaded a pass to Kyle Gable, who ripped a shot from 15 yards out putting Springfield up 2-0 and scoring the Pride’s first man-up goal on the afternoon. Beebe returned the favor to Heney, feeding the junior with a great pass, which he would finish on top of the crease at the 9:11 mark. Springfield would finish the first quarter leading the Scots by a score of 4-0, after Heney found Chris Jez who buried a shot in the lower corner.

The Pride went on to grab a 7-0 lead after Shawn Runyon finished a Beebe pass with 9:44 remaining in the second quarter. Gordon's Joel Derechinshy then scored the visitors first goal of the 2009 season as he fought through several checks but managed to beat the Pride’s Tom Albano, bringing the score to 7-1. Two more goals from Beebe, including a man-up goal assisted by Jake Jones gave Springfield a 9-1 lead at the half.

In a chippy, aggressive second half that saw a combined 15 penalties, Gordon tallied back-to-back man-up goals 49 seconds apart in the third quarter to make it a 10-3 ball game. Goals from Dan Utz and Jordan MacIntosh brought the Fighting Scots within seven, only to have goals from Runyon and Jeff Scarfo push Springfield's lead to 11 at 12-3. Gordon continued to battle, scoring the final two goals of the third stanza, both coming from MacIntosh, to make it a 12-5 contest heading into the final quarter.

The Pride outscored the visitors in the final frame 5-1, en route to the 17-6 victory.
