| Baltimore, MD -- Franklin & Marshall College's Beau Smith (Jr.,
Baltimore, MD/Gilman) scored three goals and added an assist as the
Diplomats' men's lacrosse knocked off Goucher, 7-4. F&M would get on the board first as Steve Welsh (Fr., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen) hit Bryan Kobel (Sr., Franklin Lakes, NJ/Don Bosco) at the 5:21 mark for a 1-0 lead. The lead increased to two 45 seconds later as Smith added an unassisted score for a two goal lead as the Diplomats never trailed in the game. Goucher's Phil Anthony pulled the Gophers within one just 15 seconds later, but the Diplomats pounded in three scores in the second period, including a pair off the stick of Welsh. With 47 seconds left on the clock before intermission, Welsh weaved through the Gopher defense and found a hole to shoot and bury the eventual game-winner as the Diplomats held a 5-1 lead at halftime. Smith opened the third with his third tally of the game, but Goucher's Phil Anthony flicked in a score and Quadir Stern connected on a pair to pull the Gophers out of a 6-1 hole and cut the Diplomats' lead to 6-4 entering the fourth. F&M's Andrew Kuskowski (Sr., Huntington, NY/Huntington), the Centennial Conference Player of the Week, sealed the game by taking a Smith assist and rifling a shot past Goucher goalie Mike Arnesh at the 44:16 mark for the 7-4 final. In net, Mike Sartorius (Fr., Summit,NJ/Summit) recorded eight saves on 26 Goucher shots, while Arnesh blocked 13 of the Diplomats' 34 shots on net. Franklin & Marshall (5-3, 1-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on March 30 versus York College of Pennsylvania. Game time is set for noon. |
