| TOWSON, Md. -- For the third straight game at Gopher Stadium, Goucher held an
opponent without a single goal in the second half. Today, however, that only
got the Gophers as far as overtime.
Just 17 seconds into overtime, Mary Washington's Jeb Boland scored an extra-man goal to provide the Eagles with a 7-6 victory. The Eagles (4-4, 2-0 Capital Athletic Conference) were leading 4-3 before they struck for a pair of goals in the final 10 seconds of the second quarter. With :07 showing on the clock, Randy Fulk scored to put Mary Washington ahead 5-3. Ryan Brown won the ensuing face-off for the Eagles, and that led to a buzzer-beating goal by Mark Fiore that put the Eagles ahead 6-3 at the half. Ian Montgomery, who finished with three goals and an assist, scored twice in the third period, including a goal with :01 showing on the clock, as the Gophers closed to within 6-5 heading into the final 15:00. Goucher (4-5, 2-2 Capital Athletic Conference) pulled even 1:15 into the fourth period on a goal by Clay Ulman and the 6-6 tie held up through the end of regulation. The Eagles, who also defeated Goucher in overtime last season, now lead the all-time series between the two schools 11-2. The Gophers have a 1-2 record in overtime games in 2003. |
