into overtime today propelled Goucher to an 8-7 victory over Randolph-Macon
before a Gopher Stadium crowd of 189.
Going into the fourth quarter, the Gophers enjoyed a 6-3 lead, but the Yellow Jackets (2-2) battled back to tie the score at 6-6 on a goal by Steve Fuller with 8:58 remaining and again at 7-7 on an unassisted goal by Keith Rzucidlo with 1:15 showing on the clock. Ian Montgomery (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall), who picked up an assist on Wilson's game-winning goal, tallied three of Goucher's goals. His first goal just 1:31 into the contest put the Gophers (2-3) ahead 1-0 and his second created a 3-3 tie with 2:18 remaining in the second period. A goal by Binz Hansen (Roswell, GA/McCallie, TN) with :41 showing on the clock broke the tie and provided Goucher with a 4-3 advantage at halftime. An extra-man goal by Tim Pistel (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford) and Montgomery's third goal of the game accounted for all of the scoring in the third quarter, boosting Goucher's lead to 6-3. The Gophers went ahead 7-6 with 6:25 remaining in regulation on an unassisted goal by Clay Ulman (Jarrettsville, MD/John Carroll), but the Yellow Jackets answered a little over five minutes later with Rzucidlo's goal that forced overtime. Randolph-Macon finished with a 30-28 advantage in shots, forcing Goucher's Reeves Craig (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) to make 16 saves. |
