Greensboro, NC -- Greensboro College (2-1) defeated Virginia Wesleyan (2-1) on Saturday at Smith Turf Fields by a final score of 13-5. The Pride were led by John Anglin (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) with 3 goals on the day. Matt Leach (Charlotte, NC/Canon) got the win in goal and 11 saves for the Pride. Box score The Pride led 5-2 after one quarter. After out-scroring 5-0 in the second period, GC led 10-2 at halftime. "I was really happy with the way our guys played today," said GC Head Coach Dan Cetrone. "The defense and offense played well. This was a very good win for us." The Pride had 9 players record points in the contest. Bryan Mercer (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) and Brad Gesser (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) both had 2 goals and one assist. Nick Patrone (Supply, NC/Apex) potted 2 scores while Brian Kirschner (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) scored and assisted once for the home team. The Marlins were led by Nick Northern with 2 goals for the visitors. The Pride return to action on Pride Field on Wednesday when they play host to Washington & Lee.
