| HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Fourth-ranked Hampden-Sydney College grabbed a
6-0 halftime lead and the 14th-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team
never recovered, losing 13-5 Wednesday afternoon in an Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) contest.
The Tigers (11-0/5-0 ODAC) scored three goals in each of the first two periods to take a 6-0 lead into the intermission, and the closest the Hornets could get was 9-4 in the fourth stanza. Freshman Billy McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) netted two goals and added an assist, while Kevin Reinecke (Crofton, MD/Arundel), Zack Green (Arnold, MD/Broadneck) and Jeff Mullenix (Riva, MD/South River) each scored once. Chris Johnson (Chantilly, VA/Centreville) made nine stops in net. The Hornets outshot H-SC, 36-34, but were out-matched in ground balls, 47-25. Hampden-Sydney snared 18 of the games 22 face-offs. Five players each scored twice for Hampden-Sydney. With the win, the Tigers claim the top seed in next week's ODAC Tournament, and ran the nation's longest winning streak to 11 games. The Hornets fall to 10-3 and 3-2 in the ODAC, with another important ODAC showdown Saturday at Roanoke College. Face-off is set for 2 p.m. |
