|LEXINGTON, VA (February 23, 2003)-Hampden-Sydney?s eighth-ranked lacrosse team earned a
14-6 victory over 19th-ranked SUNY-Oneonta Sunday at Washington and Lee University. The win
moves the Tigers to 1-0 overall, while the Red Dragons fall to 0-1.
Five different Hampden-Sydney players scored goals in the first quarter as the Tigers
jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never looked back. Will Dammeyer (Annapolis, MD/Severn
School) scored the first goal of the 2003 season off an assist from Matt Fassnacht
(Fairfax, VA/Robinson) at the 11:09 mark of the quarter before Phil Dick (Salem, VA/Salem),
Wilson MacIlwaine (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne?s-Belfield), Chris Lucas (Fairfax Station,
VA/Paul VI) and Chris Schaaf (Midlothian, VA/Collegiate) each added his first goal of the

and dealt two assists, and Schaaf who added a career-best three goals to lead the Tigers to
victory. Lucas and senior midfielder Jason Rostan (Farmville, VA/Prince Edward) finished
the game with two goals and two assists, while MacIlwaine scored two goals and Dick and
Dammeyer one each. Sophomore Brad Haller (Fallston, MD/John Carroll) added two assists.
Dave Coughlin added three goals and one assist to lead Oneonta. Overall, the Tigers
out-shot the Red Dragons, 36-14. Hampden-Sydney goalkeepers Jeremy Bull (Raleigh,
NC/Ravenscroft) and Peter Ellington (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge) combined to make nine saves
in the net for the Tigers in the win.
Hampden-Sydney returns to action Saturday, March 1, as the Tigers host Susquehanna
University at Fulton Field at 1 pm.
