The Hawks grabbed the early lead on a Shields goal but the Rams countered with five of the next six to take a 5-2 lead. After a sixth score midway through the second period, Bobby Cassidy (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) scored Hartwick's second goal and Wilk tallied with 12 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to three, 6-3, at the half.
Hughes made it a two-goal game 40 seconds into the third, but three goals in a 4:50 span increased the Ram edge to four, 10-6. Eddie Abraham (Rockville Centre, NY/Southside) then scored unassisted and Srubinski tallied from Aitchison to close out the third quarter with the Hawks down 9-7.
