Hartwick vs. Farmingdale

The Game Story:
FARMINGDALE, NY - Hartwick College fell on the road on Monday 11-10 to Farmingdale State in a makeup game rescheduled from Feb. 27th. The Hawks outshot the Rams in every period and finished with a total margin of 48-29, but ultimately could not overcome a 6-2 first half deficit. The loss drops the Hawks' overall mark this season to 2-2. Farmingdale improves to 3-1.

Senior attackman Brandon Wilk (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) led Hartwick with three goals. Freshman Harry Hughes (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) contributed two scores, Dave Aitchison (Farmingdale, NY/N. Massapequa) added a goal and two helpers, and Tom Srubinski (West Islip, NY/Islip) and Joe Shields (Loudonville, NY/Shaker) each had a goal and an assist. Empire 8 Goalie of the Week Ryan Twardowski (Emmaus, PA/Southern Lehigh) made nine saves.

Trailing 11-9 with seven minutes to go, the Hawks peppered the Ram goal with six shots in the late stages as they looked to pull within one, but Farmingdale keeper Patrick Delventhal denied the Hawks on four of them. Aitchsion finally tallied with 25 seconds left only to have the Rams win the ensuing draw and run out the clock for the win.

The Hawks grabbed the early lead on a Shields goal but the Rams countered with five of the next six to take a 5-2 lead. After a sixth score midway through the second period, Bobby Cassidy (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) scored Hartwick's second goal and Wilk tallied with 12 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to three, 6-3, at the half.

Hughes made it a two-goal game 40 seconds into the third, but three goals in a 4:50 span increased the Ram edge to four, 10-6. Eddie Abraham (Rockville Centre, NY/Southside) then scored unassisted and Srubinski tallied from Aitchison to close out the third quarter with the Hawks down 9-7.

After an early Farmingdale goal in the fourth, Wilk and Hughes both tallied to cut the lead to one, 10-9. Rob Noseworthy then scored for the just 16 seconds later to give the Rams breathing room down the stretch.

Jimmy Owsinski led Farmingdale with four goals on the day. Noseworthy, Wes Hubschmidt, and Erick Thomson each finished with two. Delventhal ended the game with 13 saves.

Steve Kuron (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) led the Hawks with seven ground balls. Aitchison added five and caused a team-best three turnovers.

The Hawks are back on the road this coming Saturday at Potsdam. The Hawks and Bears square off at 1 p.m.
