Hartwick vs. Cobleskill

The Game Story:
ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick's men's lacrosse team opened the 2010 campaign with a 15-5 rout of Cobleskill on Thursday evening at Wright Stadium. The Hawks outscored the Tigers by a combined 12-2 in the second and third quarters, and held a 55-17 shot advantage in the game.

Senior Brandon Wilk (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and freshman Harry Hughes (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) each registered three goals apiece to pace 'Wick. Sophomores Tom Srubinski (West Islip, NY/West Islip), Matt Landry (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury), and Ian Putnam (N. Pomfret, VT/Proctor Academy) each tallied twice.

The Hawks, despite holding a decisive 13-5 advantage in shots, led by just a 2-1 margin in at the end of the first quarter. Landry gave 'Wick the lead early in the period and the score stayed 1-0 until 2:47 left in the period as Kevin Eipp's scored his first of the day for Cobleskill. Hughes gave Hartwick the 2-1 edge just over two minutes later for his first collegiate goal.

The Hawks took command of the game with five unanswered scores in the second quarter. Wilk scored two straight 27 seconds apart with Landry, Steve Kuron (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), and Hughes each adding second-period tallies. Pete Gonzalez and Steve Hughes scored the Cobleskill goals and the Tigers trailed 8-3 at the half.

The third quarter was dominated by Hartwick as the Blue and White scored all six of the quarter's goals and took 18 of 19 shots. Putnam and Srubinski each scored twice with Wilk and Eddie Abraham (Rockville Centre, NY/Southside) scoring once apiece.

Up by a 15-3 margin after an early Hughes' goal in the fourth, the Hawks eased off the pedal offensively. Eipp and Gonzalez closed out the scoring with the final two Cobleskill tallies late in the game.

Ryan Twardowski (Emmaus, PA/S. Lehigh) picked up the win in goal for the Hawks making six saves in 55 minutes in cage. Tom Bolton (Ashland, MA/Ashland) stopped one Cobleskill shot in the final five minutes. Tom Knezick and Jake Lazore spilt time in the Tiger goal. Knezick made eight stops in the first half with Lazore making nine saves.

Kuron led Hartwick with 10 ground balls on the day. He also won 12-of-17 face-offs. Alex Skvarch (Syracuse, NY/Marcellus) added four GBs and caused a game-high five turnovers.
