Haverford vs. Hampden-sydney

The Game Story:
ALEXANDRIA, Va. Ė The tenth-ranked Haverford College menís lacrosse team defeated Hampden-Sydney College, 12-6, on Saturday afternoon at Episcopal High School in Alexandria. The Fords never trailed in the game and scored seven consecutive goals during which they held Hampden-Sydney scoreless for 21:38.



Max Hjelm led the Fords with three goals and two assists. Senior Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald added two goals and seven other Fords scored a goal.



Hjelm got Haverford (5-1) on the board first with two goals 1:06 a part. Hampden-Sydney (2-4) evened it up with consecutive goals from Mark Miller and Doug Carpenter. Hjelm scored with 1:29 remaining in the first period to make it 3-2 Fords. That goal by Hjelm marked the turning point in the game as Haverford scored seven straight goals that gave the Fords a 9-2 lead with under 10 minutes in the third stanza. Carpenter broke the Fords scoring streak with a man up goal with 6:12 remaining in the third. The Fords answered back with goals by Dean Granoff and Mike Distler 41 seconds a part to put HC up 11-4.



Carpenter added three more goals and Will Ashwell added one, but it was too late for the Tigers. Myles Monaghan scored the Fords 12th goal on an assist from Hjelm with under four minutes to play.



Jake Mendlinger recorded his fifth win in goal; making 18 saves.



The Fords return home on Wednesday, hosting Muhlenberg College at 4 p.m.
