The Game Story:
ITHACA, N.Y. ó The #4 Ithaca menís lacrosse team (12-1, 5-1, Empire 8) scored 12 consecutive goals in the first half of a 21-7 win over Elmira (1-9, 0-5 Empire 8) in an Empire 8 game Wednesday at Upper Terrace Field. The Bombers maintain first place in the conference and have won 11 of 12 games all-time against Elmira. Ithacaís 12-1 start matches the programís best record through 13 games to start a season.

Bomber senior midfielder Mike Giunta (B. Reed Henderson/West Chester, Pa.) scored a career-high three goals in the game and all of them came during the deciding first-half run. Junior attackman Nic Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) scored three goals and now has seven goals over the last two games. Senior middie Chris Carman (Monte Vista/Alamo, Calif.), freshman attackman Devin Weinshank (Long Beach/Long Beach) and senior attackman Alec Siefert (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.) all scored twice.

Sophomore Jay Lucas (Fox Lane/Bedford Hills), junior Roniel Bencosme (Sleepy Hollow/Sleepy Hollow), and freshmen D.J. Merriman (Marcellus/Marietta), Michael Edwards (Jamesville-DeWitt/Jamesville) and Brian DiBetta (John Jay/Katonah) scored the first goals of their Ithaca careers in the win.

Ithaca controlled possession throughout the game as junior midfielder Nick Neuman (Madison West/Madison, Wis.) had a career-high 11 ground balls and won 12 of 13 faceoffs in the contest.

Four Ithaca goalies saw action in the game. Sophomore David Gal (Loomis Chaffee [Conn.]/Amherst, Mass.) played the first half and made four saves in earning his 11th win of the season. Senior Ben Connery (Homer/Homer) played in the third quarter and had two saves. Freshmen Tim Palmer (West Chester East/West Chester, Pa.) and Brendan Green (Pittsford Mendon/Pittsford) made their first collegiate appearances in the fourth quarter. Palmer made one save and Green had two saves.

Ithaca plays its final regular-season home game Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Bombers host Hartwick.
