| ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 4 Ithaca men's lacrosse team (8-0) pulled away from Maritime (5-3) in the second half in a 14-8 victory Saturday at Upper Terrace Field. Ithaca controlled possession all day long by winning 20 of 25 faceoffs in the game. Junior midfielder Nick Neuman (Madison West/Madison, Wis.) won 11 draws for the Bombers, a career high, and also had career-best totals in assists (2) and ground balls (8). Ithaca broke a 5-5 tie on freshman Tom Mongelli’s (Kinnelon/Kinnelon, N.J.) goal with two seconds remaining in the second quarter, and carried that momentum into the second half as the Bombers extended their scoring run to 7-2 and built a 12-7 advantage in the fourth quarter. Senior attackman Alec Siefert (Duxbury, Duxbury, Mass.) factored on half of Ithaca’s goals with four goals and three assists. It was a career-high assist mark for Siefert. Junior midfielder Nic Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) had three goals and an assist. Mongelli and senior midfielder Chris Carman (Monte Vista/Alamo, Calif.) had two goals each. Senior midfielder Kevin Bush (Arapahoe [Colo.]/St. George Island, Fla.) had three assists. Sophomore goalie David Gal (Loomis Chaffee [Conn.]/Amherst, Mass.) made seven saves and improved to 7-0 on the year. Ithaca returns to Empire 8 action Wednesday at 4 p.m. when the Bombers host St. John Fisher. |
