The Game Story:
ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 3 Ithaca men's lacrosse team (9-0, 2-0 Empire 8) earned a 12-6 victory over No. 23 St. John Fisher (9-1, 2-1 Empire 8) Wednesday at Upper Terrace Field. The Bombers’ 9-0 start is the second-best start to a season in school history. Ithaca handed the Cardinals their first loss, leaving just five undefeated teams in NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse. The Bombers have never lost to the Cardinals in 12 all-time meetings.

Ithaca won 16 of 21 faceoffs in the game, and 12 of 15 against St. John Fisher’s top draw man, who came into the game ranked second nationally with an .818 success rate. Senior Matt Ruhnke (Brien McMahon/Norwalk, Conn.) was 10-2 at the X and scored a pair of first-quarter goals as the Bombers built a 4-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes.

The Bombers stretched the lead to 8-2 with three goals in a span of 58 seconds in the third quarter and never looked back. Ithaca outshot St. John Fisher 44-19.

Senior attackman Alec Siefert (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.) had two goals and two assists in the game, giving him 28 goals and 40 points on the season. Both of those are single-season bests for Siefert. Junior middie Nick Neuman (Madison West/Madison, Wis.) and senior attackman Matt Cutter (Needham/Needham, Mass.) also scored two goals each. Eight different Bombers had multi-point games in a balanced attack.

Sophomore goalie David Gal (Loomis Chaffee [Conn.]/Amherst, Mass.) made five saves and improved to 8-0 on the year.

Ithaca returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. at Empire 8 opponent RIT.
