Kean vs. Montclair State
March 30, 2005
The Game Story:
Union, NJ (3/30/05) - Junior John Della Pesca (right) scored five times, including the 100th goal of his career as Montclair State posted its third straight win with a 15-9 triumph over Knickerbocker and local rival Kean University on Wednesday evening.

Kevin Gondres added two goals and two assists for the Red Hawks, who climbed back to the .500 mark at 4-4 while improving to 2-0 in the Knickerbocker Conference.

Steve Gill had four goals and two assists for Kean (2-5, 0-2 KLC), which lost its second straight.

The Red Hawks raced out to a 5-0 lead, as Della Pesca scored two goals and Gondres added two goals and two assists in the flurry. Della Pesca's first goal came 42 seconds into the contest as he became the ninth player in school history and second this season to reach the century mark in goals scored. Della Pesca joined Sean Pekarsky, who reached the mark against Haverford on March 2.

Montclair extended its lead to 7-2 before the Cougars mounted a comeback scoring five of the next seven goals to make the score 9-7 with 11:06 remaining in the third quarter. In that run Gill scored twice and had two assists, while Dennis Lukacsko, Tom Rossi and Will Lillard each scored one.

However, that would be as close as the Cougars would get it as the Red Hawks tallied three unanswered goals to close out the third period. Della Pesca had two unassisted goals and Bryan Klimchak scored the last of the three goals.

In the game, the Red Hawks held a 49-33 advantage in shots and a 31-24 edge in groundballs.

For the Cougars, freshman goalkeeper Dave Nichols made 19 saves, while MSU keeper Tim Condron made 12 stops.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 2 as they host Oneonta State at Sprague Field. Face-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm and is the start of a four-game homestand for MSU.
