Kean vs. Stevens Tech

The Game Story:
UNION, N.J. Sophomore attack Joe Van Sickle (Hampton, N.J./Peddie School) scored a career-high five goals as the seventh-ranked Stevens men's lacrosse team cruised to a 22-5 win over Kean University in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference game on Saturday at Kean Alumni Stadium.

Stevens (11-2, 6-0 Knickerbocker) capped off its fifth straight unbeaten season in conference play. Including last year's Knickerbocker tournament, the Ducks have won 36 straight games over conference foes dating to 2000. Stevens' last loss in Knickerbocker play was April 22, 2000, in a 19-13 setback to Kean. Kean falls to 7-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

Stevens scored the first eight goals of the game en route to a 14-1 halftime lead. Van Sickle scored the opening goal with 10:53 left in the first quarter off an assist from freshman midfielder J.R. Oreskovich (La Costa, Calif./La Costa Canyon). Sophomore attack Mark Bielicky (Martinsville, N.J.) scored three straight goals in a span of 8:46 between the first and second quarters. Sophomore attack Steve Gill got Kean on the board with 5:28 left in the second quarter, but Stevens reeled off six straight goals in the final four minutes of the quarter to build a 14-1 advantage at halftime.

The Ducks then scored three straight goals in the first 2:21 of the second half before turning the game over to their reserves.

Junior midfielder Jay Wells (Shaftsbury, Vt.) turned in another dominant effort as he won 21 of 26 faceoffs and picked up 17 ground balls. Wells was 20-for-24 with 15 ground balls in a 23-6 win over Richard Stockton on Wednesday. Bielicky finished with four goals while sophomore midfielder Patrick Bailey (Manassas, Va./Osborne Park) added three goals and an assist. Sophomore goalie Jack Dunderdale (Ridgefield, Conn./Immaculate) stopped six of seven shots while playing only the first half.

For the Cougars, Gill finished with three goals and Will Lillard added two goals and two assists. In goal for Kean, senior Bruno Parente had 22 saves.

Stevens is back in action on Wednesday, April 27, when it hosts Richard Stockton in the semifinals of the Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference tournament at DeBaun Field at 4 p.m.
