Kean vs. Brockport

The Game Story:
Senior Andy Hilton (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili), junior Nate Thomas (Cortland, NY/Cortland) and sophomore Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) each scored twice for The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team Saturday to propel the team to its first victory of the season with a 9-5 win over Kean University in Union, New Jersey.

β€œI am very proud of the way the team came out and played today,” said head coach Ben Wineburg. β€œThe guys really stuck together and it is nice to see them celebrate a victory. I am proud of the way all 40 players worked together for this win.”

Brockport (1-4) fell behind in the first quarter as Kean (4-2) scored twice in the first eight minutes of the contest to take the early 2-0 lead. Before the end of the first quarter, Brockport responded with two goals of its own to knot the score at 2-2 after the first 15-minute quarter. Elliott got the Golden Eagles on the board with just under six minutes to play in the opening quarter and Kevin Conlon (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) tied the score at the 3:13 mark.

In the second quarter, Kean regained the lead with a quick goal to start the period and Thomas evened the score with the first of two goals on the day at the 8:08 mark and the teams stayed tied at 3-3 for the remainder of the quarter for the halftime intermission.

The third quarter was dominated by the Golden Eagles as Brendon Rothfuss (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) gave Brockport a 4-3 lead four minutes into the half. Kean knotted the score for the last time at 4-4 with just less than five minutes remaining in the quarter.

Brockport scored a man-up goal 1:30 later to take the lead for good as Matt Andon-McLane (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season and then extended the lead to 6-4 as he assisted on another goal 20 seconds later as Hilton notched his first of two goals.

In the final quarter, Hilton scored again 1:12 into the period and less than a minute later, Brockport took an 8-4 lead as Elliott scored his second of the afternoon. Thomas added his second goal of the day with less than three minutes remaining for a 9-4 Golden Eagle lead and Kean added a late goal with 20 seconds on the clock to end the scoring.

The Cougars had 32 shots and senior Kyle Crosley (Clinton, NY/Homer) made 11 saves for Brockport.

Thomas finished with two goals and two assists, Andon-McLane had a goal and two assists while Elliott and Hilton each had two goals. Mike Tammaro (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) had two assists while Conlon and Rothfuss each scored once. Keenan Sullivan (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) won eight of 12 face offs and Thomas won control of four of the five face offs he was involved in. Sullivan led the team with his five ground balls.
