Kenyon vs. Roanoke
March 4, 2009
The Game Story:
SANFORD, Fla. (March 4, 2009) For three quarters, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team played a tight game with the No. 9-ranked Roanoke College Maroons. It was the other quarter, the first, which put the Lords in a big hole Wednesday at Sylvan Lake Park and ultimately led to a 20-12 loss.

Kenyon, which upset the nationally-ranked Maroons last season, did not get off to the start it would have liked in the rematch. Some costly turnovers and ragged play resulted in a 7-2 Roanoke advantage after the first 15 minutes. The deficit proved too much to overcome, although the Kenyon squad played within three goals of the Maroons for the remainder of the game.

On the offensive end, Kenyon senior Devin Catlin (Charlottesville, VA/Western Albemarle) scored three goals and classmate James Eaton (Baltimore, MD/Boys' Latin) scored twice. Defensemen Tony Alexander (West Falls, NY/East Aurora) and Charlie Sayre (Englewood, CO/Kent Denver School) got in on the action by scoring one goal apiece. The other five Kenyon goals were scored by five different players.

The loss dropped Kenyon to 1-1, while Roanoke, which has scored 20 or more goals in each of its five games this season, improved to 5-0. The Lords will remain in Florida to continue practices and prepare for Tuesday's game against Dickinson College.
