| BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 13, 2009) The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team scored three goals within a span of 17 seconds Friday and broke open a close game with the Kenyon College Lords at neutral-site St. Andrew's High School. The quick strikes turned the tide for Stevens and resulted in an 8-4 win for the Ducks. With Stevens leading 5-3 late in the third quarter, both teams were getting amped up for an exciting finish. That excitement quickly fizzled, however, when the Ducks netted a goal with 54 seconds remaining in the quarter. The Ducks scored again eight seconds later, and then again nine seconds after that to put things out of reach. Kenyon (1-3) was able to get one goal back in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late. That Lords' final goal was scored by senior Devin Catlin (Charlottesville, VA/Western Albemarle). Back in the first quarter, Kenyon got off to the start it wanted. Sophomore Charlie Sayre (Marlborough, MA/Avon Old Farms) scooped up a ground ball, raced out of the defensive zone, and went right to the Stevens goal, where he logged the Lords' first score with 6:40 showing on the clock. Senior Brett Fuller (Marlborough, MA/Avon Old Farms) opened the second quarter of play with a nifty move from behind the net that eventually led to another Kenyon score and a 2-0 Lords' lead. Stevens, ranked No. 20 nationally, answered Fuller's goal and then tacked on two more in the second quarter to take a 3-2 lead into halftime. The Ducks scored again to open the third quarter and moved ahead 4-2, but Sayre made a repeat performance by running out of the defensive zone and scoring his second goal of the game. That set the stage for the Ducks' three-goal flash that all but decided the game. The Ducks (3-2) were led by J.R. Oreskovich, who scored twice and had one assist. Matt Keating added one more goal and two assists. |
