|Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- Junior Mike O'Brien finished the game with six points helping the King's men's lacrosse team to a 14-7 win over visiting Manhattanville Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.|
The Monarchs jumped out early with three unassisted tallies from Billy McCullough, Kieran McMahon and Max Malloy to hold a 3-0 lead after the first quarter.
Manhattanville answered back with a goal just 42 seconds into the second quarter on an unassisted marker by Peter Callahan. Tom Tarczali brought the Valiants to within 3-2 with 12:00 to play in the second. King's pushed the lead back to 9-2 scoring six unanswered to close out the first half capped by an unassisted tally by Lenny Fox.
McCollough kept the momentum going for King's scoring just 10 seconds into the third quarter extending the lead to 10-2. O'Brien made it 11-2 with his third goal at the 7:44 mark in the third quarter.
The Valiants were able to get as close as 11-7 after scoring five straight goals capped by an unassisted goal from Callahan. The Monarchs iced the game with goals from McMahon, Fox and Kevin Sweeney to set the final.
O'Brien notched three goals and three assists. McMahon netted four goals while McCollough and Sweeney tallied two goals and one assist each.
Callahan led the way for the Valiants scoring three goals and dishing out two helpers for five total points. Jordan Kolb added two points on a goal and an assist.
Brendan McCrudden picked up the win in net making five saves while Ray Zimlin took the loss for Manhattanville making nine saves.
King's held a 50-20 edge in shots. The Monarchs finished the game with 45 ground balls to Manhattanville's 26. King's also dominated the face-offs winning 20-of-24 draws.
The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday when they host DeSales in the final regular season home game. The game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
