Lycoming vs. Dickinson

The Game Story:
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. Ė The Lycoming College menís lacrosse team took a break from conference competition, Saturday afternoon, to host Dickinson College. The Warriors lost a heartbreaker in overtime to the Red Devils by a score of 10-11. Lycoming falls to 7-5 overall this season, while Dickinson improves to 8-3.

The Warriors scored three goals in the final two minutes of the opening period to grab an early 4-2 advantage. The Red Devils, however, found some momentum with their attack in the second quarter, outscoring Lycoming 6-3 to take an 8-7 lead into halftime.

In the second half, an outstanding defensive effort put the Warriors into position to win the game. Lycoming held Dickinson scoreless in the third period to take a 9-8 lead with 15 minutes to play. The two teams then traded goals in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter leaving the Warriors with a 10-9 lead. The Red Devils knotted the game at 10-10 with 7:43 to play and neither team could find the net again during regulation. In the sudden-death overtime, Dickinson won the faceoff and Brian Reed ended the game with a goal 74 seconds into the extra period.

Lycoming was led by Dave Kirschner (Sr./Newton Square, Pa.; Marple Newton) who scored seven goals in the game. James Cusick (Fr./Aston, Pa.; Sun Valley) added two goals and Chris Jordan (Sr./Doylestown, Pa.; Germantown Academy) accounted for the Warriors other score. Jordan also tallied two assists, as did Thomas Nairn (So./Fairport, N.Y.; Fairport). Chris McQuade (Sr./Lower Gwynedd, Pa.; Wissahickon) assisted on one goal. Matt Lyons (So./Radnor, Pa.; Conestoga) was strong in goal for Lycoming, making 15 saves.

The Red Devils were led by Reed with five goals and two assists. Flynn Burch added two goals in the contest. Kevin Riley was Dickinsonís goalkeeper. He made six saves while allowing 10 goals.

The Warriors will be at home for their next game when they host DeSales University on Thursday, April 28, at 3:30 p.m.
