LYCOMING WINS KEY CONFERENCE GAME OVER MESSIAH
WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Lycoming College men?s lacrosse team hosted Messiah College, Tuesday
afternoon, in a battle for second place in the Middle Atlantic Conference. The Warriors used a
combination of explosive offense and stifling defense to defeat the Falcons, 8-6. Lycoming is
now 9-4 overall and 6-1 within the conference. Messiah falls to 6-6 and 5-2. With two games
remaining in the regular season, the Warriors are in position to host at least one conference
playoff game.
Lycoming set the tone early by scoring the game?s first two goals and adding a third to win the
opening quarter, 3-1. The Warriors continued to seize control of the contest in the second
quarter scoring two more goals to build a 5-2 halftime advantage.
The Falcons, however, had no intention of going quietly as they quickly tied the game at 5-5
with three unanswered goals to start the second half. But Lycoming kept their composure and
responded with two goals of their own to rebuild a two-goal cushion. Messiah pulled back within
one goal with 11:41 to play in the game, but that would be the last time they found the back of
the net. The Warriors added one more insurance goal with 2:45 to play to seal the game.
Dave Kirschner (Fr./Newtown Square, PA; Marple Newtown) and Dan Wilcox (So./Corning, NY;
Corning-Painted Post East) led Lycoming?s offense with two goals and two assists each. Sang
Duong (So./Havertown, PA; Haverford) added one goal and two assists, and Chris McQuade
(Fr./Lower Gwynedd, PA; Wissahickon) chipped in one goal and one assist. Buddy Temple
(Sr./Webster, NY; Webster) and Eric Holzhauer (Sr./Willow Grove, PA; Abington) also scored for
the Warriors.
Sean Powers (So./Drexel Hill, PA; Monsignor) made 10 saves in a stellar performance in the
cage.
Lycoming will travel to Elizabethtown College on Thursday afternoon for their next game.
