Lycoming vs. Widener
March 26, 2011
The Game Story:
Senior JJ Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ) scored twice during a pivotal second quarter and sophomore Josh Fox (Wynnewood, PA) helped salt things away with a second-half hat trick in Widener’s 9-1 Middle Atlantic Conference rout at Lycoming in Williamsport, PA.

Hoeffler scored with 9:33 left in the second quarter to pull Widener to a 1-1 tie. After junior Whitney Bruemmer (Southampton, PA) tallied with 4:10 left for a 2-1 Pride lead, Hoeffler scored 40 seconds later for a two-goal margin.

This occurred during a big period in which Widener owned a 10-7 shots edge and sophomore Bobby Schluter (Kennett Square, PA) made six saves.

Widener (3-2, 1-0 MAC) fired a shutout in the second half thanks to Fox’ exploits and a goal each from senior Andrew Janusz (Easton, PA), freshman Robert Clemens (Aston, PA) and junior Michael Bassani (Califon, NJ). The Pride notched a 24-13 shots edge in that span and 41-27 overall.

Senior Nick Politarhos (Ridley, PA), sophomore Charlie Bytheway (Glen Mills, PA) and senior Matt Parrott (Downingtown, PA) all had five ground balls for the Pride, who have won three of their last four. Schluter closed with eight saves, all in the first half.

Stephen Romano scored in the first quarter and Alan Antinarello made 15 saves for the Warriors (1-5, 0-1).

Widener on Wednesday visits FDU-Florham in a re-match of last year’s MAC final, won by the Pride. Face-off in Madison, NJ is at 7:00 pm.
