Lycoming vs. Widener

The Game Story:
4/30/08 -- Sophomore Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) scored three of his career-best six goals during the deciding second-half run for Widener, which advanced to the Middle Atlantic Conference final with a 19-17 victory over Lycoming in Williamsport, PA.

Widener (9-7) improved to 14-2 in MAC Tournament games and on Saturday will visit Messiah for the title in Grantham, PA. The start time is to be determined.

The Pride found itself in a 13-9 hole with 6:45 left in the third quarter. But the squad went on a 10-3 spurt to open a 19-16 lead with 1:44 remaining in the game.

Senior Brian Stromko (Maplewood, NJ) tallied with 5:47 to play in the third to make it 13-10 Lycoming and Malampy netted back-to-back makers for a 13-12 game with one minute left.

Ed Williams scored three minutes in the final quarter for a 15-13 Warriors cushion. The Pride tallied the next three goals, grabbing a 16-15 lead with 7:36 left when Andrew Janusz (Easton, PA) scored for the second time in four minutes.

After Jim Cusick scored with 6:54 left for Lycoming, senior Clint Quedenfeld (Chalfont, PA) scored what proved to be the decider with 5:47 to play for a 17-16 lead. Seniors Luke Weber (Lititz, PA) and Chris Matthews (Drexel Hill, PA) netted insurance markers for the Pride.

Stromko scored five goals with Weber adding two and four assists for the Pride, winners in seven of their last nine. Quedenfeld had two goals and three assists.

Cusick netted six goals, Nate Walter had four and Mike Doherty won 28-of-39 faceoffs for the Warriors.
