| LYNCHBURG, VA - Three players scored two goals each for Lynchburg College as the 11th-ranked Hornet men's lacrosse team defeated #16 Hampden-Sydney College 10-8 Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game. Lynchburg had a 7-5 halftime edge and went up 9-5 on scores from Billy McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) and Ryan Cranston (West Chester, PA/Henderson) early in the third period. The Tigers fought back with three-straight tallies, drawing within one at the 13:43 mark of the fourth quarter on a man-down score from Thomas Jennings. LC's Johnny Black (Timonium, MD/St. Paul's) posted an insurance goal with 9:46 left and LC's defense held the Tigers scoreless the rest of the way. Cranston had two goals and an assist, while Black and A.J. Tinklepaugh (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) each had two scores. Adam Gift (Centreville, VA/Westfield), Ryan Quick (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) and McCulloch each posted a goal and an assist. Freshman Garrett Curran (Hull, MA/Tabor Academy) made 10 saves in net to record his ninth win of the season and sophomore David Schnur (Keswick, VA/St. Anne's Belfield) turned away a man-up Tiger attempt in the closing seconds to seal the win. Vince Smith had two goals and an assist for H-SC (7-4/3-2 ODAC). Michael Via had two goals while Jennings had a goal and an assist. Lynchburg outshot Hampden-Sydney 33-29 while the Tigers controlled 14 of the games 21 face-offs. Lynchburg (9-4/3-2) travels to Randolph-Macon College next Saturday for an ODAC contest at 2 p.m. |
