The Game Story:
LYNCHBURG, VA Ė The Hampden-Sydney College menís lacrosse team opened a late three goal lead Saturday and held on to defeat seventh-ranked Lynchburg College 10-9 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The newly remodeled Shellenberger Field was dedicated at halftime in a 15-minute ceremony.

Lynchburg led 4-2 after one period and 5-4 at halftime, but the Tigers controlled the third period. H-SC led 9-6 entering the fourth quarter and 10-7 with 10 minutes left. Johnny Black (Timonium, MD/St. Paulís) and Ethan Farrell (Nantucket, MA/Nantucket) each scored to bring LC back within one with under two minutes to play, but the Tigers made a late defensive stand to preserve the victory.

Ryan Cranston (West Chester, PA/Henderson), Kyle Fortman (Gambrills, MD/Archbishop Spaulding) and Farrell each found the back of the net twice for LC and Leon Bournes (Washington, D.C./Archbishop Carroll) had a goal and an assist. Brian McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) also scored.

Scott Russell made 17 saves to allow Hampden-Sydney (11-2/4-1 ODAC) to emerge victorious despite getting out-shot 53-29. Ryan Harrington and Will Shell each posted three scores for the Tigers.

Lynchburg (10-3/3-2 ODAC) faces Marymount University Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA.
