| LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior midfielder Brian Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) scored the game-winner with 1:36 on the game clock to lift the fourth-ranked Lynchburg College men’s lacrosse team to a 10-9 win over Hampden-Sydney College in the semifinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. LC advances to face to the winner of the Roanoke College/Washington & Lee University game (played Wednesday) this weekend. The Tigers took a 7-5 halftime lead, but Lynchburg scored all three goals of the third period to take an 8-7 lead. Hampden-Sydney’s Michael Via found William Shell twice early in the fourth period to give H-SC a 9-8 lead with 10:33 left in the game. Ryan Quick (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) scored from Adam Gift (Centreville, VA/Westfield) at the 5:52 mark to knot the score, and Gift fed Kemper for the game-winner. Hampden-Sydney had the ball in the closing seconds, but was whistled for an off-sides penalty with 13 seconds left and Lynchburg ran out the clock. Freshman Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) scored three times for Lynchburg, while Quick posted two goals and an assist. Kemper scored twice with Ryan Cranston (West Chester, PA/Henderson) and Kyle McGuire (Burke, VA/Robinson) each had a goal and an assist. Shell and Eamon Thornton each scored three times for the Tigers (8-5), and Ryan Harrington and Thomas Jennings each had a goal and an assist. Lynchburg out-shot Hampden-Sydney 48-39, while the Tigers won 12 of the game’s 21 face-offs. |
