| LYNCHBURG, VA - Senior attack Billy McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) found the back of the net six times as the Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Ohio Wesleyan University 11-3 in non-conference play Saturday. The Hornets had last beaten the Bishops in 1999, a five-game winning streak for OWU in the head-to-head series. Lynchburg dominated play in the first quarter, with McCulloch scoring twice as LC opened a 5-0 lead. Ohio Wesleyan's John Schlegel scored back-to-back goals early in the second period, but three straight goals by McCulloch gave LC an 8-2 halftime edge. The Lynchburg defense allowed just one goal in the final 40:16. Freshman attack Ryan Cranston (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) scored three times while Brian McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) tallied a goal and three assists. A.J. Tinklepaugh (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) had one goal and Adam Gift (Centreville, VA/Westfield) had two assists. Freshman goalie Garrett Curran (Hull, MA/Tabor Academy) made 13 saves en route to recording his second collegiate victory. Schlegel had two scores for OWU (0-1), Kevin Lakani scored while Harrison Iuliano had an assist. Paul McCommons made 15 stops. LC out shot their visitors 38-26 and had a 41-34 edge in ground balls. The Hornets won 10 of the 17 face-off opportunities. Lynchburg (2-0) travels west over Spring Break to take on Colorado College Saturday at 1 p.m. |
