| LYNCHBURG, VA - Sophomore Billy McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T
Woodson) scored six goals and added two assists Saturday as the 12th-ranked
Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team defeated #10 Roanoke College 17-9. The
two teams will meet again in three days as the Hornets travel to Roanoke
Tuesday for the first-round of the four-team Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) Tournament.
Lynchburg held a 9-6 lead at halftime, but the Maroons closed to
11-9 on an Andy Bonasera goal early in the fourth period. McCulloch quickly
scored two goals and assisted on a third to give LC a five-goal cushion
midway through the fourth period. The Hornets never trailed in the game.
Brandon Childs (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's) had three goals and an
assist, while Kip Campbell (Fork Union, VA/FUMA) had three goals. Kevin
Reinecke (Crofton, MD/Arundel) posted two goals and an assist, and Paul
Venturella (Millersville, MD/Old Mill) found the back of the net twice.
Patrick Mahler (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) had LC's other goal. Nick Braun
(Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) made 15 stops in net.
Bonasera had four goals for Roanoke (12-3/4-2 ODAC), and Kris
Davis had two goals and two assists, while Joe Weeren had two goals. Dan
Reed tallied a goal and an assist. Tim Morse made 14 saves.
Hampden-Sydney College captured the ODAC regular season title and will enter
the ODAC Tournament with the number one seed, while Roanoke, LC and
Washington & Lee University all tied for second place. Due to the conference
tiebreaking procedure, Roanoke enters the tournament with the #2 seed, LC
