| LYNCHBURG, VA - Junior attack Brandon Childs (Baltimore, MD/St.
Paul's) scored four goals and added two assists Sunday as the Lynchburg
College men's lacrosse team held on to defeat St. Mary's College of
Maryland, 9-8.
The Hornets held a 3-1 lead at halftime, and each team exploded for five goals in the third period. LC's Kip Campbell (Fork Union, VA/FUMA) scored an extra man goal one minute into the fourth period to give Lynchburg a 9-6 edge. The Seahawks scored two minutes later, and Kevin Whalen capitalized on an LC turnover to bring the visitors within one with 3:44 left on the game clock. St. Mary's had several scoring opportunities late, but interceptions by Campbell and Ryan Johnson (Durham, NC/Durham Academy) sealed the game in the closing minutes. Sophomore Billy McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) had two goals and two assists for LC (1-1), while Kevin Reinecke (Crofton, MD/Arundel) posted two goals. Lynchburg out shot St. Mary's 31-21. Lynchburg travels to Chester, PA Wednesday to face Widener University at 2 p.m. |
