#2 Stevenson Rallies for 12-9 win over #18 LC

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Stevenson University men’s lacrosse team escaped a potential upset Saturday evening and rallied to post a 12-9 win over #18 Lynchburg College on Shellenberger Field.

The Hornets entered the fourth period ahead 7-5, but the Mustangs netted five straight goals to pull ahead 10-7, three of the tallies coming in a 54-second span. Lynchburg’s Pat Ohrem (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) and Ethan Farrell (Nantucket, MA/Nantucket) answered with back-to-back goals to bring LC within one goal with 3:35 left on the game clock, but Stevenson iced the game with two additional scores.

The Hornets led after one period 1-0 and scored the first four times of the second period to forge a 5-0 advantage with eight minutes left in the half. Stevenson scored the next five times to even the contest at five entering intermission. The Hornets recorded the only two goals of the second period.

Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, PA/Downington East) and Ohrem each had two goals and an assist for Lynchburg, while Ben Sauer (Richmond, VA/Collegiate) and Farrell had a goal and an assist apiece. Aaron Khouri (Louisville, KY/Memphis U. School), Max Voumard (Cape May, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) and Jon Gill (Pocopson, PA/Unionville) each found the back of the net once for LC.

Steve Kazimer paced Stevenson (7-0) with four goals and three helpers. Richie Ford had three goals and an assist, while Kyle Moffitt scored twice. Geoff Herbert made 14 stops for MU and Franc Cook (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) stopped 11 shots for Lynchburg.

Ray Witte won 16 of his 25 face-off opportunities for Stevenson and SU held a 44-32 edge in total shots.

Lynchburg (4-3) opens its Old Dominion Athletic Conference schedule Wednesday, traveling across town to Randolph College for a 7 p.m. match-up.
