| LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior attack Matt Fink scored four goals as the Washington & Lee University men’s lacrosse team, ranked 20th in NCAA Division III, rallied to defeat 12th-ranked Lynchburg College Saturday 11-9 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams.
The Generals held a 5-4 halftime lead, and extended their advantage to 6-4 just 28 seconds into the third period on an unassisted goal from Dustin Martin. The Hornets would rattle off five straight goals, all from different players, to take a 9-6 lead. Brian McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) capped the 5-0 surge with 11:50 remaining on an unassisted goal. But the visitors would score the last five goals of the game, tying the game at nine with a score by Mark McLewee, and taking the lead for good on Fink’s fourth goal at the 4:03 mark. Lynchburg senior Brandon Childs (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul’s) had two goals and an assist, while Kevin Reinecke (Crofton, MD/Arundel) scored twice. Ryan Quick (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle), Brian McCulloch and Billy McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) each posted a goal and an assist. McLewee had two goals and two assists for W&L (5-3/1-0 ODAC). Gavin Molinelli tallied two goals and an assist and Martin had a goal and an assist. The Generals outshot LC 38-22 and won 13 of the 24 face-offs. Lynchburg travels to Greensboro College Wednesday for a non-conference game at 3:30 p.m. |
