scored in the final two minutes of the game to give the tenth-ranked
Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team a 12-11 win over #11 Whittier
College (CA) Saturday in non-conference play.
The Hornets appeared in control of the game as they extended their 7-2 halftime lead to 10-2 after posting the first three scores of the third period. The Poets scored five times over the last 5:23 of the third quarter to trail just 10-7. Whittier would complete the comeback with a tally by Russell Der to tie the match up at 10 all, and Ryder Bateman gave the Poets their first lead of the game with an unassisted goal with 4:41 left. Senior attack Kevin Reinecke (Crofton, MD/Arundel) answered back 33 seconds later with an unassisted goal and Brian McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) found Childs for the game winner at 1:49 of the fourth quarter. Reinecke scored three goals, while Billy McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) had two goals and an assist. Charlie Enman (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) scored twice and Ryan Quick (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) and Brian Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) each had a goal and an assist. Nick Braun (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) made nine stops. Bateman led Whittier (3-2) with three goals, while Dax Harrison posted two. Billy Schultz recorded two assists. Lynchburg held an advantage of just one in the shot (31-30), ground-ball (53-52) and face-off (14 of 27) categories. |
