| LYNCHBURG, VA - Junior midfielder Paul Venturella (Millersville,
MD/Old Mill) netted four goals and the Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team
scored the last six goals of the contest as the Hornets defeated visiting
Widener University Wednesday, 16-11.
The teams exchanged goals for much of the first half, with Venturella scoring all four of his tallies in the opening half to give LC a 9-8 advantage at intermission. Widener scored the first two goals of the third period, but a goal by senior Chris Rieley (Herndon, VA/Herndon) tied the game at 10. The Pioneers' Brian Manion scored his fifth goal of the contest with 3:47 left in the third stanza, but the Hornets would rattle off the last six goals to earn the victory. Junior Kip Campbell (Fork Union, VA/FUMA) and Rieley each scored three times and added an assist for LC. Sophomore Kevin Reinecke (Crofton, MD/Arundel) posted two goals, while sophomore Brandon Childs (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's) had a goal and three assists. Sophomore Jeff Mullenix (Riva, MD/South River) had a goal and two assists, and senior Rob Onda (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll) had a goal and an assist. Sophomore goalie Chris Johnson (Chantilly, VA/Centreville) made seven saves. Mike Zolochik had three goals for Widener (1-2), while Kyle Swezey had two scores and an assist and Jamie Lockard had three assists. Lynchburg outshot the Pioneers 49-26, and scored on four of its eight extra-man opportunities. The Hornets held Widener scoreless in its three extra-man chances, and have yet to be scored on this season with a man down in 13 tries. Lynchburg (2-1) travels to Fairfax High School Saturday to clash with Franklin & Marshall College at 6 p.m. |
