Mariners pick up first conference win of 2008 beating Becker College 11-7

MMA's Chris Keiley scores four times in MMA victory

Castine, Maine -- Christopher Keiley ’11 (Holliston, ME) scored four goals and dished out one assist as the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners pulled away for a hard-fought 11-7 win over the Becker College Hawks in a North Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse game played Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field.

MMA had a 3-2 lead after a period and the score was tied 4-all at the half before MMA outscored Becker, 5-1, in the third quarter to take control. Garrett Lake ’08 (Farmington, ME) put home the first and second goals of the third period to give the Mariners a 6-4 lead. Keiley added his third and fourth goals on the afternoon to put MMA up 8-4, before Wade Mondoux '11 (North Berwick, ME) scored MMA's 5th goal of the period and pushed the score to 9-4. Becker closed the gap to 9-5 when Josh Fask '10 (Worcester, MA) scored his 4th goal of the day with just over a minute left in the quarter.

Becker attacker Josh Fask opened the fourth-quarter scoring to cut the Mariners’ lead to 9-6, but the Mariners would respond by scoring two of the game’s final three goals. Mondoux found the back of the cage at the 12:46 mark of the fourth quarter for his 2nd goal of the day and two minutes later, Nate Bolduc '08 (Farmington, ME) scored the Mariners' final goal of the afternoon putting MMA up 11-6.

Wade Mondoux, Garrett Lake and Nate Bolduc contributed two goals for the Mariners, while seven players assisted on the 11 MMA goals. Goalie Patrick Jones ’08 (Kennebunk, ME) stopped 12 shots to record the win.

For Becker (0-2), Josh Fask ’08 finished with a game-high five goals. Aaron Fill '10 (Lander, British Columbia) added a goal and three assists for a four-point day. Peter Fellows '08 (Boylston, MA) came up with 14 saves in the loss.

The Mariners' (1-1) return to action Wednesday when they travel to Thomas College at 4:00 p.m. Next up for the Hawks will be an away match versus St. Joseph's College on Tuesday. That match is scheduled for an 6:00 p.m. start.
