|Castine, Maine – Garrett Lake (Farmington, ME) scored three goals as the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners beat the St. Joseph’s College Monks 8-2 in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game played Sunday afternoon at Ritchie Field.|
MMA had a 3-1 lead at the half before outscoring St. Joe’s, 5-1, in the second half to take control of the match. Garrett Lake put home the first goal of the game for MMA tying the score at 1-1 before Ryan Gannon (Concord, NH) scored the go ahead goal and put MMA up for good. Nate Bolduc (Farmington, ME) and Garrett Lake scored two more times in the second half to push the MMA lead up to six goals and the MMA defense closed things out only allowing 1 second half goal.
Nate Bolduc finished the afternoon with two goals and an assist, while Wade Mondoux (North Berwick, ME), Gannon, and Phil McNerney (Eliot, ME) all finished with one goal apiece. Goalie Patrick Jones (Kennebunk, ME) picked up his third win of the year making 11 saves and only giving up 2 goals.
For St. Joe’s (0-5), Elliott LaMarre (Raymond, ME) scored the only two goals on the afternoon for the Monks, while Tyler Arsenault (Kennebunk, ME) had one assist. St. Joe’s goalie Brendan Dyer (New Gloucester, ME) came up with 13 saves in the loss.
The Mariners' (3-2) return to action Wednesday when they host the University of Southern Maine at 4:00 p.m. Next up for the Monks will be a match versus the University of New England on Thursday.
