The Game Story:
March 31, 2007 - The Manhattanville Valiants lost their fourth game in a row giving up a six goal lead in the fourth quarter to fall to the visiting Richard Stockton Ospreys 13-12 in Skyline Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants fall to 0-2 in the Skyline and 3-4 overall.

After getting off to their best start in years going 3-0, the Manhattanville Valiants have not won a game since March 14 and their losing streak extended to four this afternoon.

Sophomore Shannon Sturz (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) led the attack with six goals while freshman goalie Andrew Predun (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) stopped 20 shots. Sturz’s is leading the offense with 18 goals and five assists and has only played in four games thus far.

Manhattanville thought they were back on the winning track taking a 12-6 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Richard Stockton Osprey’s put a stop to that. The Osprey offense came alive and the Valiants could not stop them as they scored seven times to earn a 13-12 victory at field.

The Valiants got off a quick start opening the game with three unanswered goals in the first three minutes. Junior Mike Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored Manhattanville's first two goals before Sturz added his twelfth of the year.

Both teams would exchange goals for the rest of the quarter and Manhattanville would take a 6-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Valiants dominated the second quarter scoring three times while holding the Ospreys scoreless. Junior Luke Dorfman (Freeport, N.Y.), freshman Joe Hasbrouck (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Sturz recorded the goals for Manhattanville, as the Valiants went into halftime ahead 9-4.

In the the third quarter, Sturz would add two more of his six goals while Oswald chipped in with his third of the game and Manhattanville had a 12-6 lead with 15 minutes to play.

The game was 15 mintues too long for the Valiants as they collapsed in the fourth quarter giving up seven unanswered goals. Richard Stockton would score six times in the first five minutes of the quarter to tie game at 12-12 with 11:07 to play.

The Valiants were not able to capitalize on their opportunities and the Ospreys took advantage. Richard Stockton would get the game winner at the 5:22 mark and Manhattanville's offense could not find the back of the net.

Manhattanville was outshot 51-26, with 17 of those Osprey shots coming in the fourth quarter. The Valiants continue to struggle with draw controls, winning 6-of-26 in today’s game. Richard Stockton took advantage of the man up situation going 1-for-4, while the Valiants were 0-for-5.

The Valiants (3-4) will next be in action on Wednesday, April 4 as they host Merchant Marine Academy at 4 p.m. at Field.
