Kinnane, Aaron highlight Union's 9-1 win at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, NY -- Brendan Kinnane and Sean Aaron, who each received Liberty League weekly awards this week, continued their solid play in leading Union to a 9-1 men's lacrosse win at Manhattanville Friday. The Dutchmen improved to 4-1 with a fourth straight victory while the hosts fell to 1-3.

Kinnane, this week's league Co-Offensive Player of the Week, scored a goal and dished out four assists while Aaron, the Co-Defensive Player, made 13 saves in nearly 47 minutes of work. Union got two goals each from Andrew Higgins, Alex Stone and Ted McKenna in the victory.

The Dutchmen had a 43-23 shot advantage while also leading in the ground ball department, 31-29. Manhattanville won eight of the 14 faceoffs, but Union was perfect on all 18 clear attempts.

Union has allowed just 12 goals during the four game winning streak.

The Dutchmen took a 1-0 lead with just 28 seconds left in the period on Stone goal, but opened it up in the second. After Higgins notched a tally 1:07 into the period, McKenna, Nick Alfonzetti, Stone and McKenna again made it 6-0 with the final four goals coming in the final 7:56 of the period.

Kinnane's unassisted goal 2:37 into the third was countered by Manhattanville's Joey Hasbrouck with 6:23 left and it was 7-1 after three periods.

Union closed out the game with fourth period goals by Christopher Jacobson and Higgins for the 9-1 final.

Jon Goldberg made four saves in 11:34 of time in the Union net and Eric Spector saw action for the final 1:43 and did not need to make any stops. Andrew Predun made 30 saves in all 60 minutes for the host.

Union returns to action in Stony Brook on Tuesday to face Colby College.
