Sophomore Joey Hasbrouck (Wantagh, N.Y.) matched his career-high with four assists as the Manhattanville men’s lacrosse team tallied 50 shots and defeated Emerson 9-2 Thursday at GoValiants.com Field.
Hasbrouck’s four assists matched his career-high, set on March 5, 2008 in a Manhattanville win against Farmingdale State . His nine assists and ten points on the season lead all Valiants. As a freshman in 2007, Hasbrouck had 13 assists all season.
Hasbrouck set up Luke Dorfman ( Freeport, N.Y. ) for Manhattanville’s first goal of the game. Playing behind the net, Hasbrouck found Dorfman right in front of the cage, where he fired the shot past Dean Smollar. Dorfman would score once more in the third quarter, extending his career goal total to 94. He also assisted on a goal by Danny Hannon (Purchase, N.Y.) to bring his career point total to 128, moving past Joe Paradise for sixth on the all-time points list.
Mike Strauss ( Newark, Del. ) continued his strong start in 2008, scoring Manhattanville’s second goal of the game and his team-leading sixth of the season. He also earned his first career assist, feeding Matt Hanley ( Milton, Mass. ) early in the third quarter for Hanley’s second goal of the season.
Vinny Menzenski ( Yorktown Heights, N.Y. ) scored the eventual game-winner for the Valiants, expanding the Manhattanville lead to 3-1 in the first quarter. Andrew McMillin (Garden City, N.Y.) tallied a man-up goal for the Valiants to make it 4-1.
With the game in hand for the Valiants, Max Garofalo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Lance Schulman ( Mount Kisco, N.Y. ) each had goals for Manhattanville, who forced an early exit for Smollar.
Although he took the loss for Emerson, Smollar played a strong game in goal for the Lions, making 19 saves before being replaced by Braden Campbell. Andrew Predun ( Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. ) started in goal for the Valiants and earned the win, making three saves. Nick Foote ( Trumbull, Conn. ) played the fourth quarter for Manhattanville and made five saves.
The Valiant defense smothered the Lions, only allowing seven successful clears in 30 attempts, while holding Emerson to zero man-up goals in ten opportunities.
The Valiants (3-1) return to action on March 22, 2008 and will host Wells at 1:00 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field.
