March 30, 2005
The Game Story:
FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Senior middie Lee Thompson scored the University of Mary Washington's final two goals, including the game winner with 3:22 remaining in overtime, as the Eagles defeated St. Mary's College of MD, 8-7, on Wednesday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in CAC play, while the Seahawks fall to 4-5 and 0-2.
The Eagles trailed, 2-1, after the first quarter, but were propelled into a 3-2 halftime lead thanks in large part to Matt Morrell's two first half tallies. Both teams scored a pair of goals in the third quarter, and SMC edged the Eagles, 3-2, in the fourth to force the extra frame. Thompson connected on the game winner 38 seconds into the overtime period.
Thompson and Morrell paced the Eagle offense with two goals each, while Thompson also added an assist. Brad Buck made 16 saves for the Eagles while allowing seven goals.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Villa Julie College at 1 pm.
